A private driver in Abu Dhabi, island by island
Abu Dhabi is a city of islands joined by bridges, and a driver’s day here depends on which bridge you cross and at what hour. How booking and pricing work everywhere we drive is on our UAE chauffeur service page. Below is what’s particular to the capital.
Yas Island
Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and the 18,000-seat Etihad Arena all share one island, along with the hotel clusters at Yas Plaza and Yas Bay. It’s the closest district to Zayed International Airport: about 7 km from Terminal A, roughly 11 minutes with clear roads. Every airline at AUH now uses Terminal A, so there’s one arrivals hall for your driver to meet you in.
Al Maryah Island and Al Reem
Al Maryah is the business district. Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), the financial free zone that runs on English common law, sits here with The Galleria, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and the Rosewood and Four Seasons hotels, and bridges link it to Al Reem Island. It’s about 33 km from the airport. One ADGM meeting is a single trip. A roadshow between Al Maryah and ADNEC is an hourly job.
Saadiyat Island
The Cultural District keeps growing: Louvre Abu Dhabi opened in 2017, teamLab Phenomena in April 2025, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi in November 2025 and Zayed National Museum in December 2025, with the Abrahamic Family House nearby. Saadiyat Beach is about 30 km from the airport.
The Corniche and the Grand Mosque
Downtown follows the Corniche through Al Khalidiyah to Emirates Palace on King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street in Al Ras Al Akhdar. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is about 20 km from the airport, ADNEC on Al Mu’atamarat Street about 23 km, and the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal at Zayed Port about 39 km.
Darb tolls and timing for your Abu Dhabi driver
Abu Dhabi’s toll system, Darb, now has six gates. All charge AED 4 a crossing, and the daily and monthly caps were removed in September 2025.
| Gate | Where | When it charges |
|---|---|---|
| Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Khalifa, Al Maqtaa and Mussafah bridges | The four bridges onto Abu Dhabi island | 07:00-09:00 and 15:00-19:00, not Sundays or public holidays |
| Ghantoot | E11 (Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street) on the road from Dubai | Any hour, since 4 May 2026 |
| Al Qurm | Wahat Al Karama Street at Sheikh Zayed Street | Any hour, since 4 May 2026 |
Source: Abu Dhabi Mobility (ITC). An airport pickup at 08:15 bound for the Corniche will usually cross a bridge gate inside the charging window; the same run at 10:00 won’t. Government offices here close at 15:30 Monday to Thursday, inside the afternoon window. Our guide on how Darb tolls work covers both Darb and Dubai’s Salik.
Event weeks at ADNEC and Yas
ADNEC hosts the big shows. Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week runs in mid January, ADIPEC in early November (2-5 November 2026), and IDEX with NAVDEX in odd-numbered years, next on 21-25 January 2027 according to ADNEC. The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair normally runs from late April into May, though the 2026 edition moved to September.
Formula 1 closes its season at Yas Marina Circuit in early December. For race weekend, a Yas hotel keeps you 7 km from the airport. For ADIPEC, a hotel near ADNEC beats a daily run from Dubai: Terminal 3 at DXB to the Abu Dhabi Corniche alone is about 2 hours with clear roads.
Al Ain with a private driver
Al Ain sits inland on the Oman border, and its oases and archaeological sites have been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2011 as the Cultural Sites of Al Ain. Al Ain Oasis is about 160 km from Zayed International on the Al Ain Road, roughly 1 hour 40 minutes with clear roads. The Abu Dhabi Airport to Al Ain route covers the transfer itself.
A full day can take in the oasis, Al Jahili Fort or Qasr Al Muwaiji, Hili Archaeological Park and Al Ain Zoo, then Jebel Hafeet. The mountain road climbs 11.7 km through 60 turns, two lanes up and one down, to a car park beside a Mercure hotel. It’s a regular stage finish of the UAE Tour cycle race, so expect riders on the climb.
One map tip: the city runs right up to Al Buraimi in Oman. Check that your pin is on the UAE side before you send it.
By the trip, by the hour or a full day in Abu Dhabi
Distances between sights are long here, so the booking type matters. A single trip suits the airport to a Yas or Saadiyat hotel, or a hotel to an ADNEC hall on a show morning. Book by the hour for the Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace and the Louvre in one day, since the car waits nearby at each. A full day suits Al Ain, or an Abu Dhabi day trip by private car from Dubai.
If you’re flying into Dubai for an Abu Dhabi stay, Yas Marina Circuit is 97 km from Al Maktoum International (DWC) against 135 km from DXB, so check the DWC to Abu Dhabi route and our Dubai to Abu Dhabi private car service.
Choosing the car in Abu Dhabi
All our cars are RTA-licensed and fully legal for chauffeur hire. A business sedan or an S-Class handles ADGM and ADNEC days. Emirates Palace dinners and race weekends are when people ask for the Rolls-Royce and Bentley class. For Al Ain with four or more people, take an SUV such as the Toyota Land Cruiser or GMC Yukon from the SUV range: that’s close to two hours each way in the back seat.
