Ras Al Khaimah airport to Dubai transfer: what to expect
RAK International sits on Airport Road in Al Digdaga, inland and south of the city, so a Dubai run heads straight for the southbound highway without going back through town.
Dubai International is about 99 km away and Downtown Dubai about 112 km. Ignore the old “45 minutes to Dubai” line from the airport’s own marketing: OpenStreetMap routing gives 70 minutes to DXB Terminal 3 on empty roads, and real traffic adds to that. Of the UAE airport transfer routes we run, this is one where the rush hour decides the time more than the distance does.
Send your flight number and Dubai address on WhatsApp and we fix the fare. The driver tracks the flight and waits at the arrivals exit, as our Ras Al Khaimah airport transfer page explains.
The road: Airport Road, the E311 and four emirate borders
From the terminal the car takes Airport Road to the E311, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and turns south. The highway runs through Umm Al Quwain and Ajman, then across Sharjah near University City and Sharjah airport, and into Dubai. That’s five emirates in about 100 km.
Inside Dubai the address decides the last stretch. DXB comes off the E311 via Airport Road. Downtown Dubai and Business Bay usually leave the E311 for Al Khail Road. Dubai Marina, JBR and Jebel Ali are at the far end of the city, and there Emirates Road (E611), parallel to the E311 but further inland, is the alternative when the inner road is jammed.
Salik is the only toll between RAK and Dubai
Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Sharjah charge private cars no tolls, and the E311 itself carries none of Salik’s ten gates. The last few kilometres are where Salik can apply: Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road for Downtown, or the Al Safa and Al Barsha gates on Sheikh Zayed Road towards the Marina.
Salik charges AED 6 a gate at peak (6-10am and 4-8pm, Monday to Saturday), AED 4 off-peak and all day Sunday, and nothing from 1am to 6am, with 5% VAT added since June 2026. Our Salik and Darb toll guide has the gate list. You know the total before the car moves, because the fare is fixed.
Morning arrivals and the Sharjah-Dubai border
Land at RKT at 7am on a weekday and you’ll reach the Sharjah-Dubai border with the commuters, on roads that rank among the most congested in the UAE at rush hour. On the 6 January 2026 back-to-school morning, Gulf News reported heavy queues at the Al Nahda and Al Wahda Street border points, with Al Khail Road alone adding 15-20 minutes. The RTA added a lane at the Al Qiyadah intersection on Al Ittihad Road in September 2026, and expects up to 15% less waiting at peak.
For anything arriving in Dubai before 10am, we plan the top of the range: 100 minutes to DXB, 110 to Downtown. Midday and late evening run much closer to the clear-road time. On Fridays, prayer is at 12:45, so allow a little extra near mosques.
RAK airport shuttle, taxi or private car?
| Free airport shuttle | RAK taxi | Private car with us | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai drop-off | Deira (behind Union bus stand), Al Quoz Mall, Muhaisnah (Sonapur) | Your address | Your address |
| Cost | Free for flight passengers | Meter; no official airport fare published | Fixed fare agreed on WhatsApp |
| Timetable | From RAKTA, 8001700 or rakta.gov.ae | Al Hamra Taxi and Arabia Taxi | Set by your flight, which we track |
| Luggage | You carry it on from the stop | Standard taxi boot | Car sized to your bags |
| Best for | One traveller living near a stop | Short hops within RAK | Families, early meetings, DXB connections |
The shuttle’s Deira stop is behind the Union bus stand, which is why “RAK airport to Dubai Union bus timings” turns up in searches; Union Metro station is close by for the onward ride. If you live near one of the stops and your flight fits the timetable, take it. With children, heavy cases or a 9am meeting, book a car, the same way as our other intercity transfers.
Going the other way: Dubai to RAK airport
The free shuttle also collects departing passengers at the same Dubai stops. By car, leaving Dubai in the morning puts you against the main commuter flow. We’ve found no reliable figures for the evening flow out of Dubai, so for an evening flight from RKT we plan 100-110 minutes plus check-in. Landing at DXB and heading north instead? See the Dubai airport to Ras Al Khaimah transfer.
Which car from RAK airport to Dubai
A solo traveller heading for DIFC rides well in a Lexus ES or Mercedes E-Class. A family with four or five large cases needs a GMC Yukon Denali or a Mercedes V-Class. A party of up to ten fits a Toyota HiAce: ten seats and seven large cases. If you need a driver in the city after you arrive, our chauffeur service in Dubai covers hourly hire. Child seats are available on request.
