In Ras Al Khaimah a driver is usually hired for one of two jobs: a long transfer from an airport to a beach hotel, or a day on Jebel Jais with the driver waiting at the top. Our private driver service in the UAE works the same way here as elsewhere. You book ahead on WhatsApp, we confirm a fixed fare for the car, and the driver is yours for the trip or for the hours you book. All our cars are RTA-licensed and fully legal for chauffeur hire.
Where a chauffeur in Ras Al Khaimah usually drives
RAK runs along the Gulf coast and then climbs into the Hajar mountains, so distances are longer than first-time visitors expect.
Al Marjan Island is the resort strip built out into the sea, with the Movenpick and its floating water park, Banan Beach glamping, and Wynn Al Marjan Island under construction (now due to open in September 2027). The RAK Half Marathon, usually held in February, ran here in 2026, and the island hosts the New Year’s Eve fireworks on 31 December. Book those two dates early.
Al Hamra mixes hotels with Al Hamra Golf Club, Al Hamra Mall and the Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Center, which draws the conference and exhibition crowd. Mina Al Arab has the InterContinental (opened 2022) and Anantara.
Inland, the Al Wadi Nature Reserve has the Ritz-Carlton desert villas and Sonara Camp. Culture days go to the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, the Suwaidi Pearls farm, and the old sites at Dhayah and Shimal, both on UNESCO’s tentative list.
Which airport is closest to where you’re staying?
Road kilometres and free-flow times from OpenStreetMap routing. Peak hours are slower.
| Going to | From RAK Airport (RKT) | From Sharjah Airport (SHJ) | From Dubai Airport (DXB T3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| RAK city | 21 km, about 20 min | 83 km, about 70 min | 101 km, about 85 min |
| Al Hamra | 33 km, about 30 min | not measured | not measured |
| Al Marjan Island | 40 km, about 37 min | 61 km, about 61 min | 79 km, about 78 min |
| Jais Flight, Jebel Jais | 66 km, about 68 min | not measured | 147 km, about 2 hr 15 min |
RKT is the obvious choice when your flight lands there; see our Ras Al Khaimah airport transfers for the arrival details. The less obvious one: for Al Marjan Island, Sharjah Airport is about 18 km closer than Dubai, worth knowing if you’re still comparing flights (see the Sharjah Airport run to RAK). If you’re already booked into DXB, the Dubai Airport to Ras Al Khaimah private car page covers that drive.
A dated note: as of October 2026 some airlines at DXB are still running reduced schedules after this year’s airspace disruption. Send your flight number with the booking. We track the actual landing, the driver waits in arrivals with a name board, and the first 60 minutes of airport waiting are free.
Jebel Jais with a private driver
Jebel Jais is the UAE’s highest peak at 1,934 m (Visit Ras Al Khaimah), and it’s the main reason guests book a driver for a whole day instead of a single transfer. From RAK city it’s about 51 km to the Jais Flight zipline, via Al Rams Road (E18), Emirates Road (E611) and Jais Road. Allow a little under an hour without traffic.
The mountain section of Jais Road runs about 31 km, with hairpin bends and regular pull-ins for photos. It’s well built, but the descent is where an experienced driver matters: low gear and no rushing the bends.
At the top you’ll find the Jais Flight zipline (about 2.83 km), the Jais Sledder, Jais Viewing Deck Park and the 1484 by Puro restaurant, with the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp down at the base. It’s usually about 10°C cooler than the coast, and October to April is the best season. Pack a layer in winter.
Book this by the hour, so the car waits while you queue for the zipline or sit over lunch. For the road itself we’d send a Toyota Land Cruiser or a V-Class rather than a long minibus, because a shorter vehicle takes the hairpins more comfortably. A Jebel Jais day trip with a driver can start from RAK or Dubai.
Private driver in RAK: by the hour or by the trip?
Book by the trip when there’s one start and one end, like RKT to your hotel or a one-way run back to Dubai. Book by the hour when the plan has stops or an open finish, such as a mountain day, a round at Al Hamra Golf Club, or a day of sessions at the exhibition centre.
The heritage loop is a good example. National Museum in the morning, Suwaidi Pearls after, then north to Dhayah. With a chauffeur by the hour you aren’t hunting for a ride back from a pearl farm.
Roads, tolls and timing around Ras Al Khaimah
RAK has no toll gates for private cars, and neither do Sharjah or Ajman on the way down. Any toll on a Dubai trip comes from the Dubai end; our guide to how Salik and Darb tolls work explains the charges.
The E311 Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road carries most traffic between Dubai, Sharjah and RAK. Emirates Road (E611) runs further inland and is the way toward Jebel Jais.
On weekday mornings, the slow part of a RAK to Dubai run is the Sharjah-Dubai border. Gulf News reported heavy jams at the Al Nahda and Al Wahda border points on the back-to-school morning of 6 January 2026. Fridays are different: government offices close at 12:00 and Friday prayer has been at 12:45 nationwide since January 2026, so we plan midday Friday pickups with that in mind.
