Zayed International sits on the mainland, about 30 km east of Abu Dhabi city, and that’s good news if you’re heading straight to Dubai. You never cross onto Abu Dhabi island, so the bridge tolls and the island’s rush hour stay behind you. Like all our intercity airport routes, it runs at a fixed fare.
How the Abu Dhabi airport to Dubai transfer works
Every airline lands at Terminal A. Send your flight number, Dubai address and suitcase count on WhatsApp, and we reply with a fixed fare. The driver tracks the flight and waits at the customs exit with your name on a board, then walks you a minute or two to the short-stay car park. You get 60 minutes of free waiting. The terminal itself is covered on our Abu Dhabi airport transfer page.
Give us the exact Dubai address, because the district changes the Salik gates and the time.
Where Abu Dhabi airport to Dubai transfers drop off
Coming from Abu Dhabi, the coast comes first: the Marina, JBR and the Palm. Downtown is the furthest of the four.
| Drop-off | Road km from Terminal A | Typical drive | Salik gates on the usual line |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Marina (Marina Mall) | 95 | 60-90 min | Jebel Ali |
| JBR | about 95 | 60-90 min | Jebel Ali |
| Palm Jumeirah (Atlantis) | about 102 (our estimate) | 65-95 min | Jebel Ali |
| Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa) | 111 | 70-100 min | Jebel Ali, Al Barsha, Al Safa South |
Low figures are clear-road times from OpenStreetMap routing; high ones are what we plan for in traffic. JBR’s beachfront towers sit beside the Marina, so the numbers barely move. For the Palm we leave Sheikh Zayed Road at the Palm interchange, run up the trunk and round the crescent to Atlantis, all before the Al Barsha gate by Mall of the Emirates. Downtown carries on through Al Quoz and past Al Barsha and the Al Safa pair, where both Al Safa gates in the same direction within an hour count once.
Leaving Abu Dhabi: Terminal A to the Ghantoot line
The car leaves the airport on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street (E10), past New Shahama, and joins the E11, which Abu Dhabi calls Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road. It runs about 48 km past Al Samha, Khalifa Industrial and Al Layyan to Ghantoot, the last part of Abu Dhabi emirate.
Ghantoot is where the tolls start. Its Darb gate has charged AED 4 a crossing, 24 hours a day, since 4 May 2026. It’s the only Darb gate on this route: the four older gates sit on the bridges onto Abu Dhabi island, and the new Al Qurm gate is in the city on Wahat Al Karama Street. Cross into Dubai and the same road becomes Sheikh Zayed Road, through the Jebel Ali industrial area and past the Jebel Ali Salik gate near Ibn Battuta. Our Salik and Darb toll guide covers rates and timings.
Timing your arrival into Dubai
On this route Dubai’s traffic decides your time, not Abu Dhabi’s. TomTom’s 2025 index puts Dubai’s worst hour at 18:00, when trips across the metro area take 74.5% longer than on empty roads, rising to 94.4% in the city centre. The morning peak, at 08:00, adds 45.4%. Salik’s own peak windows, 6-10am and 4-8pm Monday to Saturday, line up with those hours.
So a 16:30 landing bound for Downtown meets Sheikh Zayed Road at its slowest, and we plan for the 100-minute end. Land at 13:00 for the Marina and it’s nearer an hour.
Abu Dhabi airport to Dubai by taxi, bus or train
On 6 October 2026 Abu Dhabi Mobility launched a new airport taxi service run by Arabia Taxi, with 500 regular and luxury cars at Zayed International. The meter keeps running through every Sheikh Zayed Road jam, and Salik goes on top.
The public E102 bus runs from Terminal A to Al Jafiliya in Dubai, according to the RTA’s January 2026 route list, though Abu Dhabi Mobility lists it from the city’s main station, so confirm the stop first. Etihad Rail runs Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 57 minutes from AED 39, but its Abu Dhabi station in Mohamed bin Zayed City is about 30 km from the airport by road, and the Dubai end is at Al Yalayis, inland.
Our view: one traveller with a backpack heading to Al Jafiliya can take the bus. A family of five bound for Atlantis with seven cases should not.
Which car for the Marina, the Palm or Downtown
A couple with two cases is fine in a business sedan. A family heading to a Palm or JBR resort needs the Mercedes V-Class: six seats and five large cases. For a client meeting in DIFC, book the Mercedes S-Class. Child seats are available on request.
Heading back to Terminal A
For the return to AUH, the toll story runs in reverse: Salik leaving Dubai, then Ghantoot. Avoid leaving Dubai between 16:00 and 19:00 if your flight allows. Flying out of DXB instead? Our Dubai airport to Abu Dhabi page covers that end, and our chauffeur service in Dubai handles the days in between. Other cross-emirate transfers are quoted the same way.
