How a Ras Al Khaimah airport transfer works
RAK airport is small, and that works in your favour. Send us your flight number, resort and passenger count on WhatsApp and we reply with a fixed fare. On the day, the driver tracks the flight and waits at the arrivals exit with your name on a board, and most guests are in their Al Marjan Island or Al Hamra resort within 35-50 minutes of leaving the kerb.
We run the same pickup at every airport on our UAE airport transfers page. For days out after you land, such as the mountain, the National Museum or a round of golf, our private driver service in Ras Al Khaimah runs by the hour.
You’ll see it called RAK airport, RKT or Ras Al Khaimah International. It’s all the same place, Ras Al Khaimah International, on Airport Road in Al Digdaga, south of the city and well inland from the beach hotels.
What landing at RKT is like
Scale first. RKT handled 1,000,303 passengers in 2025, its first year above a million. DXB handled 95.2 million. You won’t face Dubai-length walks or a train between concourses. The airport lists two passenger terminal buildings, and the airline list is short: Air Arabia, Air India Express, IndiGo and a few smaller carriers, plus charter flights from operators such as Condor and Enter Air.
A short flight list cuts both ways. When a flight is delayed or a route is paused (Wikipedia’s October 2026 listing shows some Air Arabia Russia routes suspended until late March 2027), there may be no later flight that day. That is why we track the flight number rather than trust the booking time, and why the 60 minutes of free waiting matters. Our guide to flight delays and pickup waiting time covers what happens after that.
The airport is changing. The existing terminal is being refurbished for 1.2 million passengers a year, and a new 30,000 square metre terminal for up to 4.5 million was due to start construction in 2026. Doors and kerbs may move while that happens, so we confirm the exact spot on WhatsApp before you land.
Where your driver meets you
Your driver waits at the arrivals exit of the building your flight uses, holding a name board. The airport has no published meeting area for private drivers, so the WhatsApp message with the driver’s name and number is your backup.
Parking here is simple, and that helps. The airport lists short-term parking at AED 8 an hour and long-term parking free, so the car waits close by instead of circling. If you are travelling with elderly parents or need a hand with bags from the moment you land, our airport meet and greet page explains the extras.
Resort transfers to Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra
Property websites often understate this part. The beach hotels are not next to the airport. Al Marjan Island is 40 km by road and Al Hamra Village 34 km, along Airport Road and then Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road down the coast. Plan 35-50 minutes to Marjan and 30-45 to Al Hamra. Mina Al Arab, home to the InterContinental and Anantara, is another beach cluster; give us the hotel name and we will price it.
RAK city is closer: about 22 km to the Al Manar Mall area, 20-30 minutes on Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Road.
Al Marjan Island has its own calendar. The RAK Half Marathon runs there each February (the 2026 race was on 14 February), and the New Year’s Eve fireworks over the island draw big crowds on 31 December. On those dates, allow extra time near the island. Wynn Al Marjan Island is now due to open in September 2027, and the airport has plans for a VVIP terminal linked to it.
There are no tolls for private cars anywhere in Ras Al Khaimah, so a resort fare comes down to distance and the car you choose.
Jebel Jais straight from the airport
Some guests head for the mountain before the hotel. Jebel Jais is the UAE’s highest peak at 1,934 m, and the Jais Flight zipline area is 66 km from RKT via Emirates Road (E611) and Jais Road, usually 65-85 minutes. It runs about 10 degrees cooler than the coast, and the season is October to April, which means right now. Keep a jumper in your cabin bag.
RAK Tourism describes the road as well built, with hairpin bends and regular pull-ins. With a family and full luggage we would book a big SUV such as the Toyota Land Cruiser over a long van. We prefer it on the hairpins, and it still takes the bags.
RAK airport taxi, free shuttle or private car?
The airport’s site names Al Hamra Taxi as its airport taxi operator, with Arabia Taxi and Al Hamra Limousine also working under the RAK Transport Authority. That page looks dated, and no official airport fare is published, so we won’t quote one.
The free shuttle bus is useful for some travellers and useless for others. It runs to stops in Dubai (Deira, Al Quoz, Muhaisnah), Sharjah (Muwaileh), Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. If you live near one of those stops and your flight lines up with the timetable, take it. If you are going to a RAK resort, it doesn’t go there.
Flying into Dubai or Sharjah instead
Many RAK holidaymakers never touch RKT, because their airline flies to DXB or SHJ. For Al Marjan, Sharjah is the smarter landing: about 61 km against 79 km from Dubai. Our Sharjah airport to Ras Al Khaimah transfer and Dubai airport to Ras Al Khaimah pages cover those drives up the E311.
Heading out the other way, the RAK airport to Dubai transfer is about 99 km to DXB Terminal 3, usually 70-100 minutes. The old “45 minutes to Dubai” line is a clear-road dream. As of 12 October 2026 some airlines are still running reduced DXB schedules after this year’s airspace disruption, so if your Dubai flight was cut, ask your airline about RKT or SHJ.
Which car for your Ras Al Khaimah airport transfer
A couple with two cases rides comfortably in a business sedan for the 40 km to Al Marjan. Families on a beach week nearly always pack more than they think, so book a Mercedes V-Class and the pram, cases and beach bags go in one load. Golfers heading for Al Hamra Golf Club with full bags need a van or a HiAce. Children under four must ride in a child seat under UAE law, so tell us ages when you book and we will have seats fitted. The child car seat rules guide explains the rest.
