A Fujairah trip starts with a mountain crossing. The emirate is on the east coast, on the far side of the Hajar range from Dubai and Sharjah, and the road your driver takes over the mountains decides how long you sit in the car. We run our UAE-wide chauffeur service here for four kinds of passenger: shipping and oil visitors to the port, guests at the Al Aqah resorts, Dubai residents on a day out, and travellers who land at Fujairah Airport and skip the crossing altogether.
Which road over the mountains?
There are two main crossings from the Dubai side. The E84, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway, is a dual carriageway of about 45 km that opened in December 2011 and links Fujairah City through the mountains to Maliha Road in Sharjah. It’s the road for Fujairah City, the port, Kalba and the airport.
Further north, the Khor Fakkan Road (opened in April 2019) comes down to the coast at Khor Fakkan and carries on toward the Al Aqah beach hotels. Send a driver the wrong way and an Al Aqah guest picks up an extra 48 km of coast road at the end.
| Going to | Usual crossing from Dubai | From DXB Terminal 3 | Without traffic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fujairah City (Fujairah Fort) | E311, Maliha Road (E102), E84 | 116 km | about 1 hr 40 min |
| Fujairah Airport (FJR) | Maliha Road, E84 | 114 km | about 1 hr 35 min |
| Khor Fakkan | Al Dhaid Road, Khor Fakkan Road | 125 km | about 1 hr 45 min |
| Al Aqah beach hotels | Al Dhaid Road, Khor Fakkan Road | 144 km | about 2 hr 5 min |
Times are free-flow estimates from OpenStreetMap routing. So when you book a chauffeur service in Fujairah, give us the hotel or the address, not only “Fujairah”. It changes the route.
What people hire a private driver in Fujairah for
Port business brings a steady flow of visitors. The Port of Fujairah has been operating since 1983, has more than 6.7 km of quay and is one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs, alongside Singapore and Rotterdam. Ship agents, surveyors and traders come and go on the vessel’s schedule, which is why port days suit chauffeurs for business days on hourly hire.
Fujairah City is compact: the restored Fujairah Fort is about 4 km from the airport terminal, and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the second largest in the UAE with room for about 28,000 worshippers, is about 3 km. The Fujairah Museum (opened 1991) and the Heritage Village fill out a morning. Most city hotels are on or near Hamad Bin Abdulla Road and Al Corniche Road.
North of the city, the coast road leads to Al Bidya Mosque, about 40 km away. Fujairah’s heritage department dates it to around 1446, and it’s often called the UAE’s oldest mosque, although older ruins in Al Ain challenge that title. The Al Aqah resorts, such as Le Meridien Al Aqah, sit a little further on along the Dibba-Khor Fakkan Road, and Dibba Al Fujairah is the northern town near the Oman border.
A Fujairah day trip from Dubai, the way we’d drive it
- Leave Dubai by 8:00 and cross on the E84 to Fujairah Fort and the museum, about 1 hour 40 minutes without traffic.
- Visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque a few minutes away. Check visitor times before you go, and avoid Friday midday: Friday prayer has been at 12:45 nationwide since January 2026.
- Drive north along the coast to Al Bidya Mosque, then stop for lunch at Al Aqah.
- Head home over the Khor Fakkan Road, past Khor Fakkan, roughly two hours back to Dubai without traffic.
That loop is about four and a half hours of driving before any traffic, so this isn’t a one-way fare. Hire a driver by the hour or for the full day, and the car stays with you at every stop.
Flying in: Fujairah, Dubai or Sharjah?
Fujairah International Airport (FJR) is about 1.9 km south of central Fujairah City, with one terminal for passengers and cargo. It’s small: federal statistics put 2025 traffic at 164,600 passengers. IndiGo flies in from Indian cities including Kannur and Mumbai. From the terminal, Fujairah Fort is 3 km, Kalba 11 km, Khor Fakkan about 30 km and Al Aqah about 48 km. Dibba is about 70 km, roughly an hour on the Masafi-Dibba Road.
Most visitors land at Dubai or Sharjah instead. Sharjah Airport to Fujairah Fort is about 114 km, around an hour and a half without traffic, and we cover Sharjah Airport pickups too. For Dubai arrivals, see the private car from Dubai Airport to Fujairah. Going back the other way after a stay, there’s the drive from Fujairah Airport to Dubai.
As of October 2026 some airlines at DXB are still on reduced schedules after this year’s airspace disruption, so check your flight with the airline and send us the flight number. We track the landing and the driver waits in arrivals with a name board.
Local knowledge for the east coast
Fujairah has no toll gates for private cars, and Sharjah doesn’t either, so the crossing itself is toll-free. Only the Dubai end of a trip can pass Salik gates.
Kalba and Khor Fakkan belong to Sharjah, even though they share the coast with Fujairah. The coast road moves between the two emirates, which matters if an address only says “east coast”.
Government offices close at 12:00 on Fridays and prayer is at 12:45. With a mosque the size of Sheikh Zayed in the city, we keep Friday midday pickups near it loose.
Which car to book for Fujairah
For two business travellers going to the port, a Lexus ES or Mercedes E-Class is plenty. A family with a week of luggage for Al Aqah needs more boot space: a Mercedes V-Class or a GMC Yukon. For a mountain day with hiking kit, we’d send one of the SUVs in our fleet, usually a Toyota Land Cruiser. Survey teams of eight to ten fit a Toyota HiAce. All our cars are RTA-licensed and fully legal for chauffeur hire. Child seats are on request; tell us the ages when you book.
