Chauffeur service in Sharjah and the Dubai crossing

Sharjah and Dubai share a border and a commuter corridor, and that crossing is where a Sharjah driver’s time goes. For how booking, fares and licensing work in every emirate, see our car with driver across the UAE page. This one is about Sharjah and Ajman.

The pinch points are well documented. On 6 January 2026, as schools reopened, Gulf News reported heavy Sharjah-to-Dubai queues at the Al Nahda and Al Wahda Street border points, with traffic backing up on Sharjah Ring Road and Al Dhaid Road as drivers diverted, and Al Khail Road adding 15-20 minutes. In September 2026 the RTA added a lane and retimed the signals at Al Qiyadah Intersection on Al Ittihad Road, and expects up to 15% less waiting at peak.

With clear roads, Sharjah Airport to Burj Khalifa is 40 km, about 43 minutes on the E311 and Al Khail Road. For a 9:00 meeting in Downtown Dubai, that free-flow figure is the one to ignore. Book the pickup early, or plan Sharjah stops for mid-morning and leave before the evening build-up. Our Sharjah to Dubai private car service covers one-way and return runs.

Sharjah Airport or Dubai Airport?

Sharjah sits between two airports, and its districts are about the same distance from each. These are free-flow road distances and times with no traffic.

Destination From Sharjah Airport (SHJ) From Dubai International (DXB T3)
Al Majaz Waterfront 19 km, 28 min 20 km, 34 min
Expo Centre Sharjah 22 km, 31 min 18 km, 33 min
Ajman Corniche 19 km, 28 min 35 km, 45 min
Al Zorah, Ajman 21 km, 29 min 37 km, 45 min
Khor Fakkan 115 km, 92 min 125 km, 105 min

For central Sharjah, the hour you land matters more than the airport. For Ajman and the east coast, Sharjah Airport pickups win on distance; Air Arabia is based there. If you fly Emirates into Dubai International, the run to Al Majaz is about the same length. Either way the driver tracks your flight and waits with a name board, and the first 60 minutes are free.

Where a private driver in Sharjah takes you

The old town is compact. The Heart of Sharjah restoration, the Central Souq, Al Noor Island in Khalid Lagoon, the Al Qasba canal and the Museum of Islamic Civilization all sit close together, with the Sharjah Aquarium at Al Layyeh and the Sharjah Art Foundation nearby. A few hours with a driver covers a museum afternoon without parking at each stop.

Expo Centre Sharjah on Al Taawun Street in Al Khan runs shows through most of the year. The Sharjah International Book Fair runs 4-15 November 2026, followed by the Hive Furniture Show and The Big Shopper Sale in late November.

University City and Muwaileh are the fast-growing south-east side, with direct access to the E311 and Maliha Road. Rolla and Al Ghuwair are the older commercial centre.

Sharjah’s hotels and restaurants don’t serve alcohol. If you’re staying in Al Majaz and want wine with dinner, the restaurant is in Dubai, and one driver held for the evening beats two taxis through Al Ittihad Road traffic.

Ajman, next door

Ajman is surrounded by Sharjah on land and has no airport, so its visitors arrive through SHJ or DXB. Visitors mostly head for Ajman Corniche, Al Zorah (golf, mangroves and kayaking), Ajman Museum inside Ajman Fort, and Marsa Ajman. Inland, Masfout was named Best Tourist Village in the World by the UN in 2025. No tolls apply on Ajman’s roads. Coming from Dubai, the Dubai Airport to Ajman transfer is about 45 minutes with clear roads.

The east coast and the north from Sharjah

Sharjah owns a slice of the east coast. Khor Fakkan is 115 km from SHJ via Al Dhaid Road and the Khor Fakkan Road, which opened in April 2019 and passes Al Rafisah Dam. In town, the Khor Fakkan Amphitheatre and Najd Al Miqsar heritage village fill a morning, and Al Suhub Rest House sits up at 580 m. Mleiha, in the central desert, is 64 km from SHJ.

Heading north, Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah is 61 km from Sharjah Airport against 79 km from DXB, so SHJ is often the smarter airport for RAK beach hotels. See the Sharjah Airport to Ras Al Khaimah route.

Booking a car with driver in Sharjah

Book by the trip for the Dubai commute, the airport and Ajman. Book by the hour for the old town, an Expo Centre day or an evening in Dubai, and take a full day for Khor Fakkan.

For a family landing at SHJ with luggage, book a van such as the Kia Carnival or Hyundai Staria from our people carriers, not a sedan. Children aged 10 or under, or shorter than 145 cm, can’t ride in the front, and we fit child seats on request. One or two business visitors for an Expo Centre show need nothing bigger than a business sedan.

All our cars are RTA-licensed for chauffeur hire. Send the pickup, date, time and flight number to +971 58 181 0789 on WhatsApp, and we reply with a fixed fare.

Chauffeur service in Sharjah: questions

Should I fly into Sharjah Airport or Dubai Airport for Sharjah?

On distance it barely matters. Al Majaz Waterfront is 19 km from Sharjah Airport and 20 km from Dubai International, while Expo Centre Sharjah is slightly closer to DXB. Traffic decides it. The documented morning jams run from Sharjah into Dubai, so a morning DXB arrival heading to Sharjah goes against them. For Ajman or Khor Fakkan, SHJ is the shorter drive.

Are there toll gates in Sharjah?

Not for private cars. Sharjah tolls trucks only, and Ajman has no tolls either. Charges start once you're in Dubai. Al Ittihad Road passes the Salik gates at Al Mamzar North and South, and if you pass both in the same direction within an hour you pay once.

Can I book a driver for a daily Sharjah to Dubai commute?

Yes. Send the pickup address, office address, start time and the days you need, and we quote a fixed fare for the car you choose. Morning queues at the Al Nahda and Al Wahda border points are the main risk on that run, so allow extra time over the free-flow estimate.

How far is Ajman from Sharjah Airport?

About 19 km to Ajman Corniche and 21 km to Al Zorah, roughly half an hour with clear roads. From Dubai International it's 35-37 km, about 45 minutes. Ajman has no airport of its own, so Sharjah Airport is the nearest for most Ajman hotels.

Can a driver take us to Khor Fakkan for the day?

Yes. Khor Fakkan is about 115 km from Sharjah Airport by Al Dhaid Road and the Khor Fakkan Road, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes with clear roads. Al Rafisah Dam sits on the highway, and Al Suhub Rest House is up at 580 m. Book a full day so the driver waits while you stop.

When is the Sharjah International Book Fair?

The 45th edition runs 4-15 November 2026 at Expo Centre Sharjah on Al Taawun Street, with Oman as guest of honour. The Publishers Conference runs 1-3 November beforehand. Expo Centre is 22 km from Sharjah Airport and 18 km from Dubai International, so either airport works for a fair visit.

Is the weekend different in Sharjah?

Yes, for government offices. Sharjah's public sector works Monday to Thursday, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, while Dubai's government also works Friday morning. If your trip includes an appointment at a Sharjah government office, book it for Monday to Thursday.
