Start with two numbers: how many adults, and how many large suitcases. Get those right and the rest of the choice is taste and budget. Get them wrong and you’ll find out at the arrivals kerb, with a driver trying to close a boot on your third case. Our chauffeur fleet is grouped by class, and the table below shows what each class carries in real life, not on a brochure seat count.
Quick checklist before you choose
- Count adults and children separately. Children under 4 need a child seat, which takes a seat place.
- Count large check-in suitcases, then cabin bags. Treat a folded stroller or a golf travel bag as one large case.
- Note anything awkward: golf clubs, a wheelchair, a pram, boxed shopping, sports gear.
- Pick the occasion: airport run, business day, wedding, intercity trip or group event.
- Decide the class you’re comfortable paying for: business, luxury, ultra-luxury, SUV, van or minibus.
- Add the journey length. Two hours on the E11 to Abu Dhabi feels different from 20 minutes to Downtown.
How many suitcases fit in a chauffeur car?
These are our planning figures for a standard large check-in suitcase, the kind most airlines let you check in economy. They are conservative on purpose: real capacity changes with model year, seat layout and whether the car is a hybrid.
| Class | Models | Passengers | Large suitcases | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | Lexus ES, Toyota Camry, Mercedes E-Class | 3 | 2 | Solo or couple airport runs, corporate |
| Luxury sedan | Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 | 3 | 2 | Executives, VIP arrivals |
| Ultra-luxury sedan | Maybach S-Class, Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom, Bentley Flying Spur | 2-3 | 2 | Weddings, VVIP guests |
| Ultra-luxury SUV | Rolls-Royce Cullinan | 3 | 3 | VIP arrival with luggage |
| Luxury SUV | Range Rover | 3-4 | 3 | Couples, executives who want height |
| Full-size SUV | GMC Yukon Denali, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban | 6 | 4-5 | Families, intercity runs |
| Off-road SUV | Toyota Land Cruiser | 4-6 | 3 | RAK and Fujairah mountain trips |
| Van | Mercedes V-Class, Hyundai Staria | 6 | 4-5 | Families of 5-6, golfers |
| Minibus | Toyota Hiace, Mercedes Sprinter | 10-16 | 7-9 | Groups, wedding guests |
| Small coach | Toyota Coaster | 21 | up to 12 | Large groups, events |
Two things this table won’t tell you.
First, hybrids. UK road tests put the boot of a petrol Mercedes S 500 at over 500 litres, while plug-in hybrid versions drop to well under 400 litres because the battery sits under the floor. That can be the difference between two big cases and one. Several chauffeur sedans now come as hybrids, so if you’re carrying three large cases in a sedan, ask which version is coming.
Second, seat counts lie. Toyota UAE sells the Hiace as a 13-seater and the Coaster as a 23-seater (Toyota UAE). Fill every seat and there’s little room left for bags. Our passenger figures above leave space for luggage.
Sedan vs SUV vs van: which suits your trip?
For one to three people with up to two large cases, a sedan wins. It’s quieter, lower to step into, and usually the cheapest class. The Lexus ES and E-Class cover most airport runs. Step up to an S-Class or 7 Series if the passenger is a client or a senior executive, or if the drive is long enough that rear legroom and recline matter.
SUVs make sense when you have bags but not a crowd. Here’s the catch with the big American SUVs: their seat count assumes the third row is up, and with the third row up the boot of a standard-length Yukon or Escalade shrinks to a few cases. The long Yukon XL and Suburban fix that. GMC lists about 41.5 cubic feet (roughly 1,175 litres) behind the third row of the Yukon XL. For a family of four with six cases, an SUV with the third row folded is ideal.
For five or six people, book the V-Class, not two sedans and not an SUV. Sliding side doors help with children, older passengers and a car park full of trolleys. On some versions the middle row is two lounge seats, and the boot takes about five large cases with six people aboard.
Beyond seven, it’s a minibus. A Hiace is the plain, practical choice for 10-12 people. A Sprinter has standing headroom and is often converted to VIP seating, though conversions cut the seat count. The Coaster seats over 20, but its luggage space is limited, so a full group arriving at DXB with a case each may need a second vehicle for bags. Our group transport service plans those runs.
Golf bags, strollers, wheelchairs and other awkward loads
Golf travel bags are long. In a sedan, one bag is usually the limit, and it takes most of the boot. Two golfers with clubs and cases need an SUV; four need a V-Class or a minibus. Tell us the number of golf bags separately from suitcases, every time.
A folded stroller counts as one large case in our planning. A child seat counts as a passenger. That means a sedan carrying one child seat has room for two adults in the back, not three. The UAE rules on seats and front-seat age are in our child car seat guide.
Wheelchairs need a frank conversation. The models on our fleet page are standard passenger cars, not ramp-equipped vehicles, so the passenger has to move from the wheelchair to a seat. A folding manual chair then goes in the boot like a large case. Full-size SUVs have a high step-in, which some people with limited mobility find hard; a sedan or the V-Class, with its low sliding-door entry, is easier. If the passenger needs to stay seated in the wheelchair, tell us before you book so we can give you a straight answer. Wheelchair help inside Dubai Airports is arranged through your airline before you fly.
Matching the car to the occasion
Airport runs
Count the bags, then choose the smallest car that fits. A family of five landing at DXB with luggage should book the V-Class, not a sedan.
Business travel
An E-Class or Lexus ES suits most day-to-day meetings. For board-level guests, roadshows and long Abu Dhabi days, the S-Class or 7 Series earns its price. Our corporate chauffeur service covers multi-stop schedules.
Weddings
The Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom have rear-hinged coach doors, so a bride in a full gown can sit straight down instead of twisting in. That one detail matters more than the badge. Decorations on licensed chauffeur cars are subject to RTA rules on stickers and advertising, so ask what’s allowed when you book a wedding car with driver. Book a van or minibus for the guests at the same time.
Intercity trips
On two hours of motorway, rear comfort matters more than on a 20-minute hop. For Dubai to Abu Dhabi or Ras Al Khaimah, a luxury sedan, SUV or V-Class makes the drive easier. Our intercity transfers cover every emirate.
Mountain and desert roads
For Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah or the Hajar Mountains on the way to Fujairah, the Land Cruiser is built for exactly that kind of road.
Budget classes, from business to ultra-luxury
Price climbs with class: business sedans are the entry point, luxury sedans and full-size SUVs sit in the middle, and the Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley cost the most.
A few ways to keep the bill sensible without squeezing:
- Compare one van against two sedans for a group of five or six. Ask us for both quotes.
- Don’t book an ultra-luxury car for luggage. A Rolls-Royce Ghost carries two large cases, the same as a Lexus ES.
- For a VIP arrival with lots of luggage, send the bags in a second car and the guest in the showpiece.
Common mistakes when choosing a car
Counting seats, not suitcases, is the big one. Close behind it: forgetting the return trip after a week of Dubai Mall shopping, booking a 7-seat SUV for seven adults with airport luggage, and leaving the child seat request until the driver is already at the hotel.
The simple fix is one WhatsApp message with adults, children with ages, large cases, cabin bags and anything odd-shaped. We’ll suggest the right car and send a fixed fare for it. If you’re still comparing companies, our checklist for hiring a chauffeur in Dubai shows what else to ask.
